Career Advising
and Student Success Plans
Description: The Career Advising Legislation became effective
in September of 2015 and Career Advising Policies were to be updated this
fall. We will review what needs to be included in a career advising
policy and explore options in implementing student success plans including
criteria that schools may use to identify students as “at risk” of not
graduating.
Learning
Targets:

Identify
requirements of Career Advising Legislation
·
Assess current
career advising policies and plans that have been implemented in school
districts (participants to review their own plans) and identify opportunities
for improvement.

Explore resources
and examples of career advising programs.
·
Develop research
based criteria to identify students as at risk of dropping out of school
·
Explore resources
and examples of student success plans.
Afternoon Session 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Community
Work Experience for Students: Exploring options from volunteering to paid
work experience.
Description: This professional development will focus different
types of community and work experiences for students. We will explore options
available for students as well as important regulations and labor laws that
school districts need to consider when supporting student work
experiences.

utilize in creating community work experiences.
