Gifted Book Studies - Summer Sessions

Differentiation for Gifted Learners

Did you miss this opportunity the first time around? Join the book Study on Diane Heacox’s and Richard M. Cash’s Differentiation for Gifted Learners Going Beyond the Basics. Explore practical methods of serving the gifted students in your classroom. Each week you will read a chapter and post your response to the reading with its application to your position. Become part of this study group and be enriched by other colleagues’ thoughts and ideas.

The study will begin Tuesday June 5. Reading and work is to be completed by July 31 in order to earn 15 hours toward your Highly Qualified Development in Gifted Education. One hour of college credit is also available; contact Kris Dobbelaere (kdobbelaere@nwoesc.org) for details. The book for our study can be purchased online or you can find a colleague from your school who participated in the study during this school year and borrow the book. (ISBN 978-1 57542-440-8)

How The Gifted Brain Learns

Have 15 hours toward gifted certification completed BEFORE school starts! (Or take the Heacox study too, and have all 30 hours!) Join the Book Study on David Sousa’s How the Gifted Brain Learns Second Edition.  This book is described as “a one-stop shop of brain compatible strategies for teaching a full range of gifted students.” It includes chapters dedicated to math, language arts and the arts. Resources are bountiful. You can specifically tailored this study to your classroom. Read a chapter from the book and post your response so other like-minded teachers in the study will have access and be able comment and ask questions.

From the comfort of your own space, in your own time - possibly poolside - earn 15 hours toward your Gifted Hours. (For some of you there maybe surplus hours above this past year’s 30 which can be applied to required hours for next year!)

This Study begins Tuesday, June 5, and it must be completed Tuesday July 31 to receive your certificate. Goggle classroom is the medium. One hour of college credit is also available; contact Kris Dobbelaere (kdobbelaere@nwoesc.org) for details. You will need to purchase your book. (ISBN 978-1 4129-7173-7) If you have completed this course last school year, it cannot be repeated for credit hours.

**You CAN enroll in one class or in both classes for the summer session. Coursework will be due at the same time for both sessions**
