Through the school announcements, eighth graders have already been planning to attend the incentive, academic field trip called VeloCity ~ a day and evening at Cedar Point. This year’s spring extravaganza allows eligible students to spend a fun-filled day at America’s world-famous “Amazement Park,” featuring the hyper hybrid roller-coaster, Steel Vengeance! Students will have field assignments from their various Core Courses that will be completed during the trip. Collected data will be applied back at school afterwards.

Staff chaperones and students will rendezvous to (1) check on health and safety and (2) allow students to change from group to group, if they wish. Students are on their own and are instructed to be with their friends – either in pairs or groups – and will be enjoying the park while working on their various class assignments. Should any concerns arise, parents will be notified. Students who cannot attend or do not qualify for the incentive trip will be provided with alternative assignments back at school on the day of VeloCity. Students who need financial assistance can inquire in the AMS Main Office.

Event Tickets: At the gate students will be receiving their purchased, discounted tickets to enter the park.  

Season Passes: Students need to bring their season passes, as the passes are their only means to enter the park.

It is suggested that they take along enough spending money to cover meals and other personal expenses.  Students are responsible for all their personal belongings.

TIMES

Students arrive at AMS for their First Period (8:00 a.m.) classes.

Buses leave AMS around 9:00 a.m. and arrive at Cedar Point at 10:00 a.m.

Buses depart at the front gate of Cedar Point at 8:15 p.m. and arrive back at Avon Middle School (north lot / flagpole) at approximately 9:15 p.m.

MONEY

The cost for a ticket is $44.50. 

The cost for students with a season pass is $7.50.

Students are responsible to bring and manage their money for meals, snacks, and games.

(RECOMMENDED: Minimum – $25.00+)

QUALIFY

VeloCity is an incentive, academic field trip. To qualify, students must not have any Office Disciplinary Referrals (one OSS or one ISA or two Wednesday Schools) for the Third and Fourth Marking Periods, as communicated toward the end of First Semester.

DRESS

Modest attire (no halters, crop-tops, tube-tops, etc.). Remember you will be walking much of the day, so make sure to wear appropriate footwear. Students are to dress for the weather; remember to bring sun-screen lotion.
