2017 After School Enrichment Program Western Row Elementary School Session III

Registrations will be accepted until all class are full, cancelled or classes begin, whichever comes first.  Please be prompt in returning registrations since class sizes are limited and classes have filled very quickly in the past.

 

All classes will be held at your child’s school directly at the end of the school day ending at 5:00 p.m. unless noted in the class description.  No class will held when school is not in session.  If a class is canceled due to the weather, the class will be made up at the end of the session.

Bricks 4 Kid:  Jurassic Brick Land! with Bricks 4 Kids of North Cincinnati

A Bricks 4 Kidz Brick Lab is a hands-on class where students build machines, buildings, vehicles, and other structures out of LEGO® components including bricks, gears, axles, and motors.  Each week, students will learn about a STEM concept

and then build a model illustrating that concept. Custom mini-figure included. This session theme is Jurassic Brick Land! Students will build a world that comes to life with models of amazing dinosaurs that lived during the Jurassic period and other extinct, prehistoric creatures that roamed the earth and swam the seas!  (LEGO® is a trademark of the LEGO® Company and is not affiliated with Bricks 4 Kidz.)

Yoga with Jo Ellen Ryan Professional Yoga Instructor

Learn the rules and principals of Yoga.  Warm up each week before we set off for various “themes” of the week.  Each week we will do poses based on themes such as hot air balloon rides, going to the zoo or park! We will play games incorporating poses and end our session with a five minute Svavasana where we lay still and focus on the experience we just had.

Exploring Cultures through Cooking - Program cancelled due to low enrollment.  The program will be offered again during session 4.

Dodgeball with Monique Mattingley & Family, Mason Residents

Join the WR fun playing various Dodgeball games each week.  All boys and girls are invited to this very active new program!

Lego Free Building - Program is now cancelled due to low enrollment.  Lego Free Building will be offered again during session 4.

Cooking with Kelsey with Kelsey Lehrian, MCS Employee

Cooking with Kelsey is now full.

Digital Graphic Design with Google Drawings with Robin Limpert, Certified Teacher

Originally we were going to offer "Google Earth".  However at this time we are unable to access the program on MCS computers. 

Google Drawings allow students to create their own digital posters, charts and diagrams for fun or even class assignements.  Students can save or share designs through their school Google accounts.

Chromebooks for Kids with Robin Limpert, Certified Teacher

Do you have a child that wants to become more proficient using any classroom or personal Chromebook? Would you like your child to be more confident when given a digital task at school, like typing an assignment in Google docs or a presentation in Google Slides and be able to help their peers learn to do the same? Students will learn to navigate and utilize Basic Google tools in Chrome, access and use the Chrome Web Store, add extensions and apps to their Google account, improve their Digital Citizenship Safety Skills and so much more!

Fencing - Program is cancelled due to low enrollment.  Fencing will be offered again during session 4.

Young Engineers/Bricks Challenge with Blank Slate

The course objective is to impart theoretical and applied knowledge in the fields of Science, Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Math (STEM) by using LEGO® technic parts and other exciting tools. Our goal is to illustrate content through stories and demonstrations. Students learn math and physical principles through intuitive study, develop their independent learning and improve their building skills.

Jump Rope with Allison Bills & Comet Skippers Members

Join the fun and healthy sport of jump rope!  Learn the basics of the sport both as individuals and as groups.  No experience is necessary.  Make sure you wear your gym shoes the day of the class.

Computer Keyboarding with Robin Limpert, Certified Teacher

As 21st Century Skills become necessary for our students’ success in their daily learning and testing environments, the need for them to be more efficient typists will be in greater demand. In this class, your child will learn basic keyboarding skills with a focus on keyboarding accuracy which is built upon correct techniques such as; correct body posture, finger position which in turn leads to increased typing speed. *BONUS- Students will be taught to use an online tool that accesses specific targeted lessons and monitors progress in a game format that can be accessed at home to practice anytime they wish!

 

Multi-Sports with Stephanie Meyer, MCS Employee

Children will enjoy a wide variety of programs each week.  We will be playing basketball, flag football, capture the flag, dodgeball and have fun picking new adventures every week.

Friday:  12/15, 12/22, 1/12 and 1/19

Engineering Club - Engineering Club has been cancelled due to low enrollment.  The program will be offered again during session 4.

Cupcakes with Kelsey Lehrian, MCS Employee

Do you have a sweet tooth?  Do you like being creative with your food?  If so you will love this class we will be decorating cupcakes. We could be using products that could cause allergic reactions such as milk, wheat, eggs, etc.  For more details please contact Kim Dunnigan.

Basketball for Beginners with Mia James and Sydney Pate, MHS Students

Basketball is now full.

 

 Karate ASEP Fundraiser with Mary Tons of Martial Arts American – Kenwood (Special Times3:45 – 4:45)

Learn basic martial arts in a fun and safe environment!  We teach karate not fighting!  It’s about setting goals and learning how to be the best you can be.  Our strong mind, strong body, strong character program teaches awesome karate blocks, strikes and kicks, safe and simple break away and much more.  This program is designed for beginners as well as students who have participated in ASEP previously.  We will continue to build on skills.
