2017 After School Enrichment Program Mason Early Childhood Center/ASEP (Grades 1 and 2) Session III

Registrations will be accepted until all class are full, cancelled or classes begin, whichever comes first.  Please be prompt in returning registrations since class sizes are limited and classes have filled very quickly in the past.

 

All classes will be held at your child’s school directly at the end of the school day ending at 5:00 p.m. unless noted in the class description.  No class will held when school is not in session.  If a class is canceled due to weather, the class will be rescheduled at the end of the session.

Young Engineers/Bricks Challenge with Blank Slate

The course objective is to impart theoretical and applied knowledge in the fields of Science, Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Math (STEM) by using LEGO® technic parts and other exciting tools. Our goal is to illustrate content through stories and demonstrations. Students learn math and physical principles through intuitive study, develop their independent learning and improve their building skills.

Cooking with Kelsey with Kelsey Lehrian, MCS Employee

Are you ready to cook, bake and eat? Every week we will be making at least one meal and dessert and learning along the way. Every great story always starts in the kitchen; so let's start one here.  We will be using products such as wheat, eggs, etc.  If you have any concerns about the products used, please contact Kim Dunnigan.

iPad STEAM with Erin Cherney, Certified MECC Teacher

STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math.  Explore disciplines with an iPad is a fun and engaging way for students to learn and discover their interests!  Students will try a variety of iPad apps that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving - skills that are essential in an age of constant innovation!  A new app will be introduced in each class and a menu of choices will be available to students for further exploration and reinforcement.

Young Rembrandts Drawing with YR Staff Members

Inspire your child’s love of the art with Young Rembrandts.  We teach drawing, the fundamental skill of all visual arts.  Our unique, proven method and step-by-step curriculum are designed for beginning to intermediate artists.  Our classes are fun and engaging! 

Fencing with Ryan Howell, Professional Fencing Instructor

Come experience the excitement of learning the art and sport of fencing!  Students suit up in protective fencing gear while they participate in footwork, blade work, free fencing, games and occasional team and individual competitions. 

Yoga with Nicole Levin, Professional Yoga Instructor

Learn to relax and unwind after a long school day.  The class will emphasize the importance of breath and demonstrate breathing techniques to help your child release tension.  In a non-competitive environment the students will learn various poses each week as well as use props and play fun yoga games.  Children will take their yoga mat home at the end of the session.

Bricks 4 Kidz:  Jurassic Brick Land! with Bricks 4 Kids of North Cincinnati

A Bricks 4 Kidz Brick Lab is a hands-on class where students build machines, buildings, vehicles, and other structures out of LEGO® components including bricks, gears, axles, and motors.  Each week, students will learn about a STEM concept and then build a model illustrating that concept. Custom mini-figure included. This session theme is Jurassic Brick Land! Students will build a world that comes to life with models of amazing dinosaurs that lived during the Jurassic period and other extinct, prehistoric creatures that roamed the earth and swam the seas!  (LEGO® is a trademark of the LEGO® Company and is not affiliated with Bricks 4 Kidz.)

Kinetic Kidz with Heidi Hill, Mason Parent

Fun and interactive program using the 4 C’s of education (collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity) to empower children with the skills that they need to “think on their feet”.  Communicate effectively and puzzle through difficult problems alongside their peers.  Using playful techniques such as drama, role play, team challenges, micro-debate and what if scenarios to teach children the components of good decision making, social skills, leadership and teamwork.

Cupcakes with Kelsey Lehrian, MCS Employee

Do you have a sweet tooth?  Do you like being creative with your food?  If so you will love this class we will be decorating cupcakes. We could be using products that could cause allergic reactions such as milk, wheat, eggs, etc.  For more details please contact Kim Dunnigan.

Engineering Club:  The Power of Green with Classroom Antics Employee

Put on your environmental engineering thinking cap as we look at new ways to protect our planet every day.  First, we will go to the ocean and repurpose what most people would call “trash”, into boats, cars, practical items and even reusable bags.  Then, we will go on land and use our resources better to help overworked bees pollinate crops and cook using the energy from the sun, instead of dirty power plants.  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Compost!

Karate ASEP Fundraiser with Mary Tons of Martial Arts American – Kenwood (Special Times3:45 – 4:45)

Learn basic martial arts in a fun and safe environment!  We teach karate not fighting!  It’s about setting goals and learning how to be the best you can be.  Our strong mind, strong body, strong character program teaches awesome karate blocks, strikes and kicks, safe and simple break away and much more.  This program is designed for beginners as well as students who have participated in ASEP previously.  We will continue to build on skills.
