The Amazing Shake Contest is
held locally in the Transformation Zone (TZ). It is a contest derived from Ron
Clark in Atlanta,
Georgia. It is a passion and labor of love by our superintendent, Dr. Goree
because it develops the whole child.
It focuses on teaching our
scholars manners, discipline, respect, and professional conduct. Prior to the
competition, students learn the nuances of professional human interaction as
they are taught skills such as how to give a proper handshake, how to “work a
room,” how to give a successful interview, and how to remain composed under
pressure. The goal is to prepare our Scholars in the Transformation Zone so
that they are able to present themselves exceptionally well for opportunities
today as well as those that will come in the future.
The actual competition consists
of case-scenario stations set up around their school and throughout the city
that every Scholar must complete while
exercising etiquette, composure, and savoir-faire. Top
performers advance to the next level of challenges until there is,
ultimately, one
champion per school! Fourteen Scholars will fly to Washington DC at the end of April and
compete against other
Scholars in their age category. There will be three final Amazing Shake
Winners for the TZ: one elementary, middle, and high school Scholar.
Caddo
Parish School System is one of over 100 districts around the world that are
participating in the Ron Clark Amazing Shake Contest.
