Students taking an Advanced Placement (AP) course at Manchester Township High School understand the following statements:
1. An AP course is the equivalent of a college-level course. The curriculum for an AP course, as set by College Board, is designed to prepare students to take a national exam in May.
2. Taking an AP course means having to complete a more rigorous level of coursework. The pace of an AP course is set by College Board. You can expect to have longer reading assignments, more writing assignments, more work to be prepared outside of class, and more work to be completed over school vacations and the summer.
3. By taking an AP course and scoring successfully on the related AP Exam, you can save on college expenses. Several colleges and universities nationwide offer college credit, advanced placement, or both, for qualifying AP Exam scores. These credits may allow students to save college tuition, study abroad, or secure a second major.
4. Students who participate in the May AP EXAM administration and score a 4, or 5 will be reimbursed by the Manchester Township Board of Education.
5. All students enrolled in an Advanced Placement (AP) course will receive the AP course weight of 12 on their transcript, regardless of whether they choose to participate in the May AP Exam administration or participate in a dual enrollment option (if available) associated with the course.
